Burcott Mill is a tradional water-powered flour mill, one of only 50 still operating in the UK today.
Built in 1863, this mill is still producing high quality wholemeal flour using tradional methods and machinery that
where employed 150 years ago. During the tour, the miller demonstrates how the Victorian machinery grinds the wheat and spelt grain into flour, and describes both how the flour is produced and the heritage of this mill, going back to Domesday times. The mill is in operation for the entire duration of the tour (during which it will produce about 40Kg of flour) and the tour concludes with a tasting of the bread made from the flour. The tour lasts approx 40 miniutes, after which visitors can relax in the mill's courtyard* and enjoy cream teas and homemade cakes, all made from our flour. There is ample free parking in our large on site car park. |
